Most moving companies provide basic moving insurance of $0.60 per pound. With the $0.60 per pound moving insurance you actually almost don’t have any moving insurance. For example: You have an expensive item that cost $700 and weight 50 Lbs, you will have a moving insurance of $30 for the item. Some moving companies offer basic moving insurance of $0.70 per pound, $0.80 per pound, $0.90 per pound, $1.00 per pound, $1.10 per pound, $1.20 per pound and $1.25 per pound. For you, the higher the moving insurance pays per Lbs is the better. From my experience you have about 50% chance that something will happen to one or some of your household goods during the move. The bigger that your move is the chances that something will happen are going up. I suggest you to check the insurance that the movers offer on the moving estimates that you receive before you decide which moving company will move your household goods and to buy additional insurance if you have expensive items. You have good web sites such as, bakerintl.com, movinginsurance.com and more that offer additional moving insurance.
